Are You Ignoring the Most Important System in your Body?

October 10, 2017

Have you ever heard of unintended consequences?   As the saying goes, “hindsight is 20/20”, but often we aren’t aware in any given moment of the future repercussions our present-day actions will have.  What we are able to do is look back from our current vantage point and see where conventional wisdom and widely accepted theories - particularly regarding health and well being - have been incorrect in the past.

X-rays are a good example to illustrate this phenomenon.  When x-ray technology was first developed and utilized, x-rays were used for everything from determining a person’s correct shoe size to treating acne.  Fast-forward to present day, and we’ve discovered that overuse of x-ray exposure can lead to undesirable health consequences.  Similarly, when cigarettes were first introduced and mass-produced to the public, they were touted as having health benefits (i.e., providing an energy boost and aiding weight loss), with no awareness of the serious, damaging long-term effects of cigarette smoke on the body.   Today smokers and non-smokers alike know that smoking is one of the leading causes of a myriad of health problems.

So, where else has commonly accepted “knowledge” gotten it wrong regarding health and wellness?  I believe that one of the biggest, most detrimental oversights by modern medicine and the medical community at large has been its failure to fully take into account the human body’s nervous system and the profound effect that the spinal column has on our overall health.  Because the spinal column may have an effect on the nervous system, and the nervous system controls every function of the body, including the immune system and the body’s ability to heal and fight infection.  Spinal health plays a critical role in our overall well-being.

When vertebrae in the spinal column become misaligned, this condition is called a subluxation.  A vertebral subluxation complex places stress on the body’s nervous system and keeps it from optimal function.  Our bodies are meant to be self-healing and self-regulating, and this is accomplished via a healthy, fully-functional nervous system.   When the spine is functioning properly, our brain is able to maintain our health status.  But when vertebrae are out of place, it interrupts nerve flow and interferes with our brain’s ability to maintain the body’s health.

The nervous system is the most valuable system in the body, and only doctors of chiropractic are able to check for nerve pressure and correct subluxations.

A severed spinal cord is one of the most serious and permanent injuries the human body can sustain, particularly because nervous tissue does not heal.  Trauma surgeons can put back together a bone that’s been shattered, but modern medicine cannot do much for brain injuries, or spinal cord damage.  These delicate tissues cannot heal, even with all the modern medicine and technology in the world.

If we are so concerned about the permanency of a spinal cord injury from an accident, shouldn’t we also be concerned about small disruptions in spinal health and nerve flow resulting from subluxations?  Though perhaps the effects are not as dramatic, these disruptions also put pressure on the brain stem and interfere with the body’s overall health.  Some symptoms of spinal subluxations include, just to name a few: headaches, neck pain, numbness radiating into the arms, back pain, pain radiating down the leg, pain when taking a deep breath, dizziness, asthma, indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, menstrual cramps, or frequent urination.  Chiropractic care helps people with every one of these problems.

If someone is experiencing a symptom or health problem, it only makes sense that they make an appointment to be seen by chiropractor, who has the ability to check for pressure on the brain stem or spinal nerve roots.   If the problem is caused by a subluxation, then correcting that subluxation would restore the body’s self-healing, self-regulating mechanisms, resulting in symptoms resolving and patient feeling better.

How do chiropractors check for subluxations, brain stem pressure or nerve root pressure?  At Reinecke Chiropractic Clinic, we utilize applied kinesiology - in other words, muscle testing.  By using muscle testing, we’re able to measure the effect that the spinal column has on the nervous system.  Think of it this way: we can tap into every patient’s “hard drive” to locate subluxations and determine spinal interference.  It’s fascinating to see what an individual’s body can tell us, and extremely rewarding seeing patients’ health restored and symptoms resolved with the correction of subluxations.

As a rule of thumb, particularly if you’re suffering from any of the symptoms mentioned above, or are experiencing new or worsening pains, stiffness, of difficulty moving, you owe it to yourself to visit a chiropractor.  If you are seeking chiropractic care, call our team at Reinecke Chiropractic and we’ll help you on your way to feeling better and enjoying improved nervous and immune system function, health and vitality!
